CA Innocence X RHOC X Swirl 4/2/2022 Carlsbad, CA

What is the California Innocence Project, and why is it important to us?

Innocence organizations are located around the world and what they do is provide free legal services to the wrongfully convicted, while also trying to improve the corrupt justice systems.

The California Innocence Project is a law school clinic founded in 1999. It is dedicated to freeing the innocent, training law students, and changing laws/policies in CA.

The CIP reviews more than 2,000 claims from CA inmates per year and has secured the release of dozens of innocent people who would have otherwise spent the rest of their lives incarcerated. The CIP uses its collective experiences and intelligence to engage with the community in many ways to prevent wrongful convictions from happening in the first place. They also support the innocent once they’ve been released, and leverage their power to promote a fair and effective criminal justice system. The CIP empowers the community to donate and raise funds to continue this valuable work.

The Real Housewives of Orange County’s (RHOC), Emily Simpson, is a licensed attorney by trade who is known for giving back and supporting the CIP through her partnerships and pro-bono work for exonerees. Swirl Boutique put on an event hosted by Emily Simpson and Gina Kirschenheiter where a portion of all proceeds from the event went back to the CIP organization. This event was attended by E! News, CA exonerees, guests, interactive shopping stands, local artists, and more.

Some of the local vendors that attended were:

There were also goodie bag sponsors

The more we can spread the news about the importance of the California Innocence Project, the more funds can be raised to help the wrongfully convicted!
